Filip Krajinovic had a mixed 2021 season. He started the year well with a third-round finish at the Australian Open, only losing to eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev in fives sets. He also managed to reach the third round of the Indian Wells and Monte-Carlo Masters and also finished as a runner-up at the Hamburg European Open. But the Serb couldn’t capitalize on his good start to the season and lost in the opening rounds of both the Wimbledon and the US Open, which saw him drop out of the top-30 of the ATP rankings.

Alexei Popyrin had a decent 2021 season. He won his first ATP title at the Singapore Open in February and also notched up wins against top-ranked players, including Stefanos Tsitsipas and Marin Cilic. He finished the year ranked No.61, 52 places above his previous year-end ranking.
