Jiri Vesely finally won a main draw match this year, after he won his second-round match against Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-3, 6-4. The Czech No.1 is currently on a six-match winning streak at this tournament, ranging all the way back to 2020, when he won the title. The fourth seed received a bye in the opening round and won 83% of his first serve and lost only one service game in his second-round clash.
Emil Ruusuvuori has been solid in the tournament so far. He won his opening round against Egor Gerasimov 6-0, 7-6 and made light work of qualifier Vit Kopriva in his next round, winning it 6-3, 6-3. The Finn had a strong finish to his 2021 season, wherein he reached the quarterfinals of three ATP tournaments in the second half and also registered his first win over a top-10 player when he defeated Alexander Zverev at the Miami Open.

The Czech was dominant throughout the match and fired 13 aces and broke his opponent’s serve twice in each set to progress to the quarter-finals for the second consecutive time. He has a proper chance to defend his title and is the second highest-ranked player left in the draw after top seed Aslan Karatsev was knocked out in the second round itself.
But Ruusuvuori will be a tough opponent to win against, he lost only two matches this year, which were against quality opponents, Rafael Nadal and Felix Auger Aliassime. He also holds the advantage of winning their only meeting so far.
