Andrey Rublev had a pretty straightforward run to the quarter-finals. The Russian began his title defense by defeating qualifier Henri Laaksonen in straight sets in the opening round and then breezed past Soonwon Kwon in the next round. Rublev won an impressive 94% of his first-serve points and held all his service games to progress to the quarters for the third consecutive year. After a disappointing third-round exit at the Australian Open, Rublev has looked clinical so far this tournament and would be looking to replicate his brilliant run from last year.

Martin Fucsovics registered his first back-to-back win since October last year, with a victory over Tallon Greikspoor in the second round. He came back from a set and break down to defeat Filip Krajinovic in the opening round, but then put on an impressive performance in the next round to defeat Greikspoor in straight sets. Since his dream run to the Wimbledon quarter-finals last year, the Hungarian has been on a rough patch and has failed to progress past the second round in 13 of his last 14 tournaments.

The Russian is also one of the favorites to win the title this year. While Fucsovics won their previous encounter, the Hungarian is yet to win a match against Rublev on hardcourts. Rublev won the finals last year by defeating Fucsovics in straight sets and will be hoping for the same outcome this time around and move a step closer to defending his title.
