Andy Murray finally gets his first win of the season as the Brit defeated Viktor Durasovic 6-3, 6-1 in 1 hour and 11 minutes in the first round. This was Murray’s second match of the season after having faced a defeat in the ATP-250 event in Melbourne. Having received a wildcard in the 2022 Australian Open, the Brit will look for maximum match time before going into the Slam.

Nikoloz Basilashvili will return to Tour action for the first time in the new season as he was earlier busy with the 2022 ATP Cup where he represented Georgia but failed to win any match and was injured during Georgia’s second match. Nikoloz will also be looking for wins under his belt before heading into the Grand Slam where he is seeded 21st.

Murray will come into the tie with a career hardcourt record of 238-70 and was 5-5 on the surface last season while he finished the 2021 season with a record of 20-16 across all surfaces. Nikoloz will take the court with a career hardcourt record of 161-130 and was 18-11 on the surface last season and had a 35-27 record for the season across all surfaces.

Looking at these numbers and considering their form in the 2021 season and in the matches they have played in 2022 so far, it will be quite a balanced match. While Murray will look to make better use of his shots and experience, Nikoloz will be looking to make Murray work hard and tire him out of the match. Nevertheless, it will be a thrilling match.

Prediction: Andy Murray to win in 3-sets.
