Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated Anna Bondar 6-2, 6-1 in the first round which lasted a little over an hour. The Russian held all her service games and broke Bondar twice in each set to win her opening round match. Pavlyuchenkova had an impressive first serve percentage (90%) and managed to save the only break point she faced to progress to the second round.

Former US Open champion Sam Stosur defeated Robin Anderson 6(5)-7(7), 6-3, 6-3. The first set was a pretty even affair as both players traded a break of serve each, but Anderson just edged out Stosur to win the first set. However, Stosur improved her game and managed to win the next two sets to win the match. The 2022 Australian Open is also Stosur’s last tournament of her career.
