Aryna Sabalenka vs Storm Sanders: Match Preview
Aryna Sabalenka has had a standout 2021. The 23-year-old has had an incredible clay-court season, winning the Madrid Open and making it to the finals at Stuttgart. Having reached the semi-finals of back-to-back grand slams at the Wimbledon and US Open she reached a career-high ranking of World No. 2. Her rise saw her be the top seed going into the year-end WTA finals, where she did disappoint after exiting at the group stage.
She was last seen at the WTA Adelaide International 1, where she reached the round of 16 before being defeated by Kaja Juvan. Despite the recent mediocre form, the Belarusian would look to shrug off her disappointing performances and get some good results under her belt before hopefully justifying her world ranking at the Australian Open later this month. However, the last time out on the court, the Belarusian was disappointing in her defeat to Rebecca Peterson in the WTA Adelaide International 2.
Storm Sanders meanwhile showed major improvements in the 2021 season in both singles and doubles. The Aussie reached the semi-finals in the mixed doubles category of the Australian Open and the doubles category at Wimbledon. The 27-year-old also qualified for her first singles Grand Slam at the French Open. Owing to her improved performances, she broke into the top 200 in the singles’ ranking.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Storm Sanders: Head to Head
The pair have met each other once before, with Sabalenka coming out on top in that match way back in 2016 to have a 1-0 record.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Storm Sanders: Match Predictions
Aryna Sabalenka will not go into the Australian Open 2022 with very good form. Despite her Belarusian having her breakout season, her form dropped off during the end of the season and was shown in her last meeting which ended up in a defeat against Rebecca Peterson despite being heavy favourites in the match.
However, Sabalenka would still look at the rest of her 2021 to gain encouragement and shrug off her poor form before the Grand Slam. On the other hand, Storm Sanders would look to provide a good fight against the favourite Sabalenka.
Match Prediction- Sabalenka to win in 2 sets.
