A fortnight ago, not a single soul would’ve predicted that Danielle Collins would make it to the last 4 but the American has stepped her game up when it mattered.

The Australian Open was the first tournament of the season for Collins and she started it on a very strong note. She defeated Caroline Dolehide and Ana Konjuh convincingly in the first two rounds before getting the better of Clara Tauson in the third round. She then battled past 19th seed Elise Mertens in the Round of 16 and the eased into the semifinal after a straight sets victory(7-5,6-1) over Alize Cornet.

As for Swiatek, she was one of the contenders to go deep in the tournament and so far, she has delivered. Despite not playing her best tennis, she has managed to reach the last 4 of a major for the second time.

She ran past the likes of Harriet Dart, Rebecca Peterson and Daria Kasatkina in the first three rounds but suddenly looked a completely different player after that. She made a lot of errors and looked visibly frustrated by herself in the next two rounds but managed to clear the hurdles. She defeated Sorana Cirstea in the Fourth Round and survived Kaia Kanepi’s test in the quarterfinal.
