Denis Shapovalov defeated Laslo Djere of Serbia 7(7)-6(3), 6-4, 3-6, 7(7)-6(3), in the first round of the Australian Open 2022. The Serbian was serving for the set at 5-4, but Shapovalov saved two set points to force a tie-breaker and capitalized on his first set point to win the set.
In the second set. Shapovalov managed to break Djere’s serve and managed to win his service games to win the set 6-4. The third set was a repeat of the second set, albeit this time it was the Serb who managed to break his opponent’s serve and he won the set 6-3. In the fourth set, Shapovalov managed to convert his second match point to win the match and progress to the next round.
Kwon Soon-woo won his opening match 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 against World No.99 Holger Rune. This is the first time that the South Korean has managed to make it to the second round at the Australian Open after facing defeats in his previous three attempts.
