Jelena Ostapenko has been a shadow of her former self in recent seasons. The former French Open champion showed some signs of recovery last season as she won her first title in two years at the Eastbourne International and also made the semi-finals of Indian Wells. But the Latvian’s record at Grand Slams remained dismal as she faced consecutive opening round exits at the Australian Open and Roland Garros.

Anna Schmiedlova’s best season to date was way back in 2015. She won two WTA titles last year and also reached the third round of the US Open, her best result at a Grand Slam along with her third round finish at 2020 Roland Garros. Since then she has failed to make any major progress, other than a title at Copa Colsanitas in 2018. She ended last season ranked No.84 on the WTA tour.
