Jessica Pegula vs Anhelina Kalinina: Prediction
Kalinina has had a mixed start to her 2021 season. She bounced back from her opening round loss to Clara Tauson of Denmark in Melbourne Summer Set 2 by winning against 9th seed Sorana Cirstea in the opening round of WTA Adelaide International. She lost in the next round to eventual runner-up Alison Riske.
Pegula wasn’t able to replicate the start of her last season, and was knocked out in the opening round of both the Melbourne Summer Set 2 and the Sydney International to Irina Begu and Caroline Garcia respectively, both the opponents were ranked much lower than her. The American is yet to win a match this year, but it will be hard to write her off as most her best results in her career have come on hard courts
