“I’m a person who loves kids but…”: Australian Open champion Rafael Nadal doesn’t want kids for THIS reason
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal is currently in a pretty good headspace in life. After enduring a torrid time with injuries towards the end of 2021, the Spaniard came back to win a spectacular 2022 Australian Open title to start the new year, making history to become the first player to win 21 Grand Slams.
The Spaniard also looks in a great shape physically, looking like he has not aged a bit since his first Australian Open title in 2009. This was unthinkable even a few months ago after the World No.6 was diagnosed with a potential career-ending degenerative bone disease.
Rafael Nadal would wait for kids until his sporting career ends

Basking in the glory after his 2022 Australian Open title, Rafael Nadal revealed in a recent interview with The Sun that while he loves kids, he’d wait until ending his sporting career to have one himself. The Spaniard, who is known to be a fierce competitor and one who dedicates everything for the sport, said that he would like to maximize his sporting career as the years keep passing.
“I would love to have children: boys, girls… I’m a person who loves kids and I’m a family guy. But also I tell you that the reality is, the years keep passing, I would like to start to do all of this when my sporting life determines it,”– said Nadal.
Rafa married his long time girlfriend Maria Francisca Perello in 2019 after dating for more than 14 years, but doesn’t have kids till present times unlike fierce rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
Elaborating on his thoughts, the former World No.1 said that a major factor in this decision was that the vast amounts of travel, which is a prerequisite of being a professional tennis player, wouldn’t be ideal for his kids.
“I think it’s also above all about looking after the kids. I don’t know if it [travelling throughout the year and having children] is ideal,” were Nadal’s words.
