Paula Badosa will be one of the title contenders after her exploits in the last few weeks of the Tour. She won the WTA-1000 Indian Wells Open and also made it to the semi-finals of the 2021 WTA Finals. She will be making her tournament debut this year having not featured in any of the previous two editions of the tournament.

Victoria Azarenka will also make her tournament debut in Adelaide as she hopes for an injury-free season. The Belarusian last played on the Tour in the finals of the Indian Wells where she lost to Badosa and with the season opener against Badosa, the former World No. 1 will look to take revenge for her defeat and kickstart her campaign on a winning note.
