Paula Badosa vs Rebecca Marino: Preview

Paula Badosa has returned on the tour after her unfortunate exit from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where the heat caused her to retire mid-match. Badosa was up against eventual Silver medallist Marketa Vondrousova in the quarter-finals of the Olympics when she could not continue further.
In the first round of the Rogers Cup 2021, Paula was up against Olympics Doubles Silver medallist Viktorija Golubic in the first round and went past her easily in 90 minutes winning the tie 6-2, 6-3 to move into the 2nd round.
Rebecca Marino comes into the tournament from a wildcard that saw her enter the main draw directly. While many doubted her ability to go ahead, she surprised a lot by defeating American Madison Keys 6-3, 6-3 in just 1 hour and 6 minutes to advance into the 2nd round of the competition.
Paula Badosa vs Rebecca Marino: Head to Head

This will be the duo’s first-ever WTA tour meeting, hence the head-to-head stands at 0-0.
Paula Badosa vs Rebecca Marino: Prediction

Marino will come into the clash with a career Hardcourt record of 146-75 and a season record of 12-4 on the surface which includes the majority of her tournaments on the level below the WTA-250. Her season record stands at 18-12 across all surfaces. Paula will take the court as the favourite for the tie given her better form as compared to Marino.
Paula is 86-47 on Hardcourts across her career and is 7-4 on the surface this season having gone 30-11 across all surfaces owing to her brilliant Clay season where she was 17-3. Looking at these numbers and her run at the Olympics where she looked heavy favourite for the medal as the tournament progressed, Badosa looks the clear favourite.
Prediction: Paula Badosa to win in straight sets.
