Belinda Bencic has been one of the most promising players on tour since the past few years. However, the 24-year-old has often failed to live up to her expectations, as she has not made her mark at any big events. At Tokyo Olympics, she rose to fame, after claiming the gold medal in Women’s Singles.

The Swiss defeated Marketa Vondrousova in three sets in the final to claim the gold medal. En-route her victory in Tokyo, she defeated the French Open champion and runner-up in the earlier rounds. Moreover, Bencic also went on to win the silver medal in the Women’s Doubles event, as she returned home with two prestigious medals.

Belinda Bencic received a congratulatory message from his fellow Swiss, Roger Federer after her win. She was delighted to have received a message from the 20-time Grandslam champion, and stated that it was really heart-warming.

Belinda Bencic revealed that she had received a message from Roger Federer, after claiming the gold medal at Tokyo Olympics. Over the years, the duo have played Mixed Doubles events at various tournaments, specifically at the Hopman Cup.

“I was super happy about Roger’s messages, his kind of happiness about my success. It was really sweet from him. It felt really like he was there, as well,” said Bencic.

Belinda Bencic will now feature in action at the Cincinnati Open, where she will face the Czech, Marketa Vondrousova in the first round encounter. The Swiss is seeded 10th in Cincinnati, and will hope to kickstart her hard court season in style.
