World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev has been one of the busiest players on the Tour this season playing in nearly all of the possible events. Having started his season at the 2022 ATP Cup, he then played at the 2022 Australian Open. After a short rest, he played at the 2022 Acapulco Open post which he became the World No. 1.

His stay at the top was only 2-weeks long as an early exit from the 2022 Indian Wells Masters saw him being replaced at the top once again by Novak Djokovic. Medvedev had the chance to return to the top with a semi-final run at the 2022 Miami Masters but he lost in the quarter-finals to defending champion Hubert Hurkacz keeping him on the 2nd spot in the rankings.

With the Clay season coming up where the Russian has not excelled as brilliantly as he has on the hardcourts, it will be another season to see if he can play impressively on the dirt as well. Taking to his Twitter account, the Grand Slam champion announced that he requires a small treatment for a hernia and will be out for 1-2 months having played so far with the ailment.

“Hi everyone. The last months I have been playing with a small hernia. Together with my team I have decided to have a small procedure done to fix the problem. I will likely be out for the next 1 – 2 months and will work hard to be back on court soon. Thanks for all the support,” wrote Medvedev in his tweet that he later reposted in Russian as well.

Daniil Medvedev now a doubt for the 2022 Wimbledon too

With 1-2 months on the sidelines, Medvedev is most likely to miss the 2022 French Open as well which will be a massive blow to his ranking given he made it to the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam having won his first match in the major after 4 appearances. His fitness will also be affected and how he prepares for the Grass season and more importantly the 2022 Wimbledon will be a ‘wait-and-watch’ thing.
