BREAKING: Roger Federer pulls out of Toronto Masters and Cincinnati Masters
Roger Federer
Roger Federer’s injury woes continue as the Swiss Maestro is forced to withdraw from the upcoming ATP-1000 Master events in Toronto and Cincinnati due to his knee injury.
Federer last played at the 2021 Wimbledon where he was defeated in the quarter-finals by Polish youngster Hubert Hurkacz and later revealed of having picked up an injury during his stay at the All-England Club. The injury had forced him out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well, 2 weeks after he was drafted in the Swiss tennis team for the Olympics.
With the 2021 US Open beginning from 30th August 2021, Federer was looking to resume his Hardcourt campaign soon at the tournaments in the US but with this injury, his comeback has been prolonged. With his withdrawals from the Master tournaments, he will have only the ATP-250 Winston-Salem Open before the 2021 US Open kicks off.
Roger Federer maybe in the last year of Professional tennis
Federer, who will be turning 40 on August 8, 2021, has already missed out on the majority of the season this year. He has played only 5 tournaments this season, one on Hardcourt at the 2021 Doha Open, two on Clay with the 2021 Geneva Open and 2021 French Open from where he withdrew after his 3rd round victory.
His withdrawal was aimed with the 2021 Wimbledon in-sight and played at the 2021 Halle Open before going to England. Having failed to win any title and now yet another injury setback, questions about his retirement are increasing. When asked about whether he will return to Wimbledon in 2022, Federer did not give a clear answer and said he’s not sure how long will he play.
Federer is a 6-time champion at the US Open and with yet another edition lined up, he may think of taking the retirement much to the disappointment of the fans who have adored the Swiss in all parts of the world.
