Bryan Brothers come up with ‘Racquets for Refugees’ to help Elina Svitolina’s cause amidst the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war
The former deadly duo, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan recently announced their initiative to launch an auction to raise funds in order to support the Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina in her efforts to support and help her homeland. The Bryan brother retired in 2020 after winning their final tournament, the ATP Delray Beach Open.
Apart from having gotten the “Super Slam” and 16 grand slam titles, the twins have aided and raised funds for multiple foundations, including the Bush ACE Outreach Program, where they made several appearances to increase donations.
They now wish to aid a fellow tennis player in her efforts. 27-year-old Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina took a massive step in her wish to help her country by committing to donate all her prize money from the Indian Wells tournament to the children and refugees of Ukraine.
‘Racquets for Refugees’ – Bryan Brothers
On March 3, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, in support of peace and freedom, committed to initiating a Fundraising auction by the name ‘Racquets for Refugees’ during the BNP Paribas Open to assist the Ukrainian refugees and civilians.
Bob Bryan made his statement regarding the Russia-Ukraine war. “We are all heartbroken to see the tragedy unfold in Ukraine,” he said. He continued to say, “Children should be on playgrounds and tennis courts, not in bomb shelters and trains fleeing their homes.”
Many clips from Ukraine have been posted on social media, displaying children being split away from their fathers, locked up in bomb shelters, hungry and weak with nowhere to escape this reality. This was not taken well by many people, getting them to focus on children’s safety and their dreams.
The Bryan Brothers embody tennis as a movement of peace and unity, an activity where people, irrespective of their nationality or age, compete against each other with the sole goal to win. “The tennis world is a close-knit family, and I am confident that when we kick off the auction on March 8, we will have an amazing level of support from players,” he said.
