Carlos Alcaraz vs Sebastian Korda

Youngsters of the Tour, Carlos Alcaraz and Sebastian Korda played out a thrilling game in the second round of the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters. It was the tournament debut for both Sebastian and Carlos and it was meant only for the American to register a win on the debut as he defeated Alcaraz 7-6(2), 6-7(5), 6-3.

The two had earlier met in the finals of the 2021 ATP NextGen Finals where Alcaraz had won the title to cap off a good season for him as he had also won his first ATP title in the 2021 Croatia Open. Korda had also won the title on Clay but could not overcome the challenge of Alcaraz in the finals in Milan. This time, however, it was Korda’s chance to level the head-to-head.

Post the result of the highly anticipated match, Korda took to his Instagram account to upload a celebratory post of his win. “A great battle and win against a great player and even better person. Can’t wait for many more together @carlitosalcarazz,” wrote Korda in the post to which Carlos replied, “Congrats Sebi!!! You deserved it! Can’t wait for the next one.”

With a second-round exit, Alcaraz gets extra days for the preparation to play in the 2022 Barcelona Open scheduled next week in his country land. As for Korda, he will now take on compatriot Taylor Fritz in the third round with both players being in good form. It will be the first time the two Americans will face off against each other. With Fritz winning both matches in 3-sets, it promises to be a good game between Korda and Fritz with a quarter-final place at stake.
