“Can’t wait to come back” Bianca Andreescu to return soon on the Tour after taking a mental health break

Former World No. 4 and 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu had to miss the start of the season in Australia after the Canadian decided to take a break from tennis in order to look after mental health. The Canadian youngster had a troubled season in 2021 as well due to injuries and the burden seemed to have affected her deep as she chose to take a break to improve on it.
Bianca had announced in December itself that unlike the majority of the Tour, she won’t be starting her season in Australia and will make a return to the Tour later in the season as and when she is both physically and mentally ready to hustle on the court.
“A lot of days, I did not feel like myself, especially while I was training and/or playing matches. I felt like I was carrying the world on my shoulders. I could not detach myself from everything that was going on off the court; was feeling the collective sadness and turmoil around and it took its toll on me,” Bianca had said back in December 2021.
Bianca moved to the Blue Spirit Costa Rica to get back to her normal being and in a recent Instagram post, she wrote about her experience there. “Wow. My time @bluespiritcostarica during the Wisdom and Well-being Program was unforgettable!! I went there to rediscover myself and have some alone time but it turned out to be so much more… I met many incredible people, experienced new things, the speakers/ teachers down there taught me so much, and most importantly I had lots of fun. Can’t wait to come back! #bluespiritcostarica <3,” wrote Bianca.
No return date set by Bianca Andreescu
Similar to the ATP calendar, the WTA will also have only two tournaments during the month of March, the WTA-1000 Indian Wells Open and the WTA-1000 Miami Open. While Bianca won the Indian Wells title in 2019, she reached the finals of the Miami Open last year only to retire in the finals against Ash Barty as her injury forced her to forfeit the match. This year, however, neither of the tournaments will feature the Canadian star who is yet to set a date on her comeback in the season ahead.
