Carlos Alcaraz has long been named as the future of tennis and he has rightly credited it to his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Spanish young gun Carlos Alcaraz has made a name for himself in a very short period of time. The Spaniard rose to fame during the 2021 season. He won the 2021 Croatia Open title becoming one of the youngest title winners on the ATP Tour. He achieved further fame at the 2021 US Open reaching the quarter-finals and becoming the youngest man in Open Era to do so.
At the ATP NextGen Finals in 2021, he won the title to stand out among the youngsters on the Tour. The 2022 season saw the best of him as he started ranked World No. 31 but finished as the World No. 1. He became the youngest man to top the rankings. He achieved the feat following his victory over Casper Ruud in the finals of the 2022 US Open. Both the finalists were playing for the Major and the number one rank that went the Spaniard’s way eventually.
The feats in the 2022 season saw him win the 2022 Laureus World Breakthrough Player of the Year, 2022 ATP Player of the Year, and also the 2022 ATP Most Improved Player of the Year. Already an all-courter on the Tour, the Spaniard is often dubbed as the heir to the Big-3 given his exploits so early in his career.

Who is Carlos Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero?
So far in his career, Carlos Alcaraz has been under only one coach. The young gun has seemed the tutelage of former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero. Ferrero also hails from Spain and is a former French Open winner clinching the title in 2003. He came close to a second Major but lost in the finals of the 2003 US Open.
Similar to Alcaraz, even Ferrero was an all-court player. He made the semis in the Australian Open (2004) and the quarter-finals in Wimbledon (2007, 2009). Called the ‘El Mosquito’, Ferrero was famous for his athleticism, mainly his speed and big forehand often debated as one of the greatest ever. He turned Pro in 1998 and retired in 2012 having made a name for himself.
Ferrero moved towards coaching by joining Alexander Zverev‘s team in July 2017. The partnership wasn’t much fruitful and ended in February 2018, mainly due to differences in opinion. Ferrero had a break from coaching for a year before taking charge of Alcaraz’s coaching situation in 2019 with the youngster just 16 years old.
Ferrero has remained private about his personal life. He lost his mother, Rosario, to cancer at the age of 16. His father, Eduardo Ferrero, then became constant support and traveled with him for most of the tournaments during his career. His father passed away in 2022. Alcaraz was playing the Miami Masters at the time and despite his personal tragedy, Ferrero made his way to Miami for the finals and saw Alcaraz clinch the title.
Ferrero is married to his longtime partner Eva Alonso. They welcomed their daughter Vega in 2014. They married a year later in 2015 and have been blessed with two boys since then. The names have however not been made public owing to their privacy.
