Carlos Alcaraz‘s meteoric ascension to the top of the tennis globe has captivated the tennis world this season. After defeating Casper Ruud at the 2022 Miami Masters, he has risen to No. 11 in the global rankings and is one of the favourites to win the French Open. Ruud has praised Alcaraz before the Monte Carlo Masters, but believes he is “beatable.”

Carlos Alcaraz, a soaring young sensation, is “one of those new unusual talents that you don’t see that frequently” in tennis, according to Casper Ruud. Alcaraz, 18, has had a strong start to the season, finishing 18-2 with multiple top-10 victories and defeating Ruud in the Miami Open final. Alcaraz has risen to No. 11 in the global rankings and is expected to be a strong contender at next month’s French Open.

Ruud put up a terrific performance in Miami, defeating world No. 3 Alexander Zverev and former Indian Wells champion Cameron Norrie en route to the final. However, he was unable to end on a high note, as Alcaraz prevailed 7-5 6-4 to win his first Masters championship.

“It’s impressive to watch and he’s very fearless on the court, he goes for big shots at big moments and doesn’t hold back,” “He never really holds back. He goes with a lot of power and a lot of sometimes risky shots, but he makes a lot of them. So it doesn’t always seem as risky. But as a player myself, you get surprised sometimes that he goes for certain shots, but he does them very often very well. So it’s also impressive.” said Ruud. Ruud was a strong clay player last season, winning five tournaments and setting a circuit record with 28 victories.

In his first match at the Monte Carlo Masters, Casper Ruud defeated Holger Rune and advanced to the second round, while Carlos Alcaraz will face Sebastian Korda in the second round. If Alcaraz progresses farther in the tournament, he may meet world No. 1, Novak Djokovic, in the quarterfinals. Alcaraz, according to Ruud, is one of the finest young players on tour since Alexander Zverev, who won his first ATP championship at the age of 19 in 2016.

He said, “I think that he is obviously one of the youngest and better players on tour at the moment and he has earned a lot of respect among the players because he is maybe the first one since I would say maybe Zverev to break out at such a young age.“Some of us were already quite good under 20, but no one was really close to top 10 at 18 except for Zverev I believe.”

Let’s hope that Ruud’s dreams come true and Alcaraz continues making history and breaking records, while the both of them continue to shift higher up the rankings.
