Carlos ALcaraz is surely one of the most promising stars on tour. The Spaniard has had an incredible year, which started with his maiden Grandslam appearance at Australian Open 2021. The year just kept on getting better for the teenager, as he managed to reach the quarterfinals of US Open 2021.

However, his end to his campaign at US Open 2021 was an unfortunate one, as he was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal clash against Felix Auger Aliassime due to a right adductor injury. The Spaniard was a set down and a break down in the second set, just when he felt that he could no longer continue playing.

It’s really tough to end a great tournament like this. I had no choice to still play,” Alcaraz said. “First of all I have to take care of my body to stay healthy. It’s a long match and I didn’t feel good to still play, so I had to retire,” he added.

Carlos Alcaraz played two close five-set matches in the third and fourth rounds. The Spaniard created one of the upsets of the tournament, after he defeated the Greek, Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round. However, the teenager stated that he is not used to playing such high intensity games in a matter of few days, which is why his body started to give away.

To play two matches [that went to] fifth sets in a row, play on a great level, in a great intensity [for] four hours, it was really tough for me. I am not used to playing these kind of matches in a row. I think it was really tough to recover [for] the next matches,” Alcaraz continued.

Carlos Alcaraz stated that his experience of playing in the quarterfinals of US Open 2021 will help him evolve as a player. He hopes to make it to the latter stages of other major tournaments in the future.

These matches gave me a lot of experience, so I think this tournament made me mature a lot. I think I played great tennis for me,” Alcaraz said. “I’m really happy to play a first quarter-final in a Grand Slam. I think this tournament’s going to be a great experience for me for the next tournaments,” he added.
