Carlos Alcaraz reveals that his playing style is similar to this ‘Big Three’ player
The Big Three, Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz created one of the upsets of the tournament so far, as he dumped out the third seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas out of US Open 2021. The Spaniard defeated Tsitsipas in a five-set thriller, that went all the way down to the wire.
Alcaraz has been in the form of his life at the Flushing Meadows this week, progressing into the fourth round of a Grandslam for the first time in his career. The 18-year-old bounced back after he lost the fourth set 6-0, and went on to the win the fifth set tiebreaker, which went on to become the decider.
Speaking in the post match press conference, Carlos Alcaraz was asked about the player whose playing style is similar to his. The Spaniard revealed that he does not copy the playing style of fellow players, but if it was one, it would be Roger Federer.
“Honestly I don’t copy any style of a players. I just play my game. But if I have to say one player that is similar to my game, I think it’s [Roger] Federer. I think similar as my game, trying to be aggressive all the time. I think it’s a good [comparison] for me,” said Alcaraz.
I have to improve a little bit the serve: Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz stated that he tried to be aggressive all the time, as he blasted several winners against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Spaniard believes that there is some work that needs to be done on his serve, as he was broken on several instances during the match.
“Trying to be aggressive all the time with the forehand, backhand. I think I have to improve a little bit the serve. But I think is similar, yeah,” he added.
Carlos Alcaraz further added that he does not believe that he defeated the third seed in a epic encounter. The Spaniard gave the credit to the fans, who supported him throughout the match. He also expressed gratitude to his family and friends, who have supported him throughout his journey.
“I have no words to explain how I’m feeling right now,” he said. “I just don’t know what happened out there in the court. I can’t believe that I beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in an epic match. I think the crowd was important for me. I think without the crowd I couldn’t have the opportunity to play a great fifth set and be able to beat Stefanos. I think the crowd was really amazing. I really loved it,” he continued.
“When I fall into the court at the end of the match I thought of my family and my friends, other people who were supporting me in Murcia. All my team was also supporting me from the academy. I thought every person that was supporting me from Murcia from the beginning of this history when I was a kid and everything. Was amazing,” the Spaniard added.
