Casper Ruud

Casper Ruud, eighth seed at Australian Open 2022 has some unfortunate news, as he has withdrawn from the tournament. The Norwegian has cited an ankle injury, which has ruled him out of the first slam of the year.

Ruud will be replaced by lucky loser, Roman Saifuillin in the draw, who faces Alex Molcan on Tuesday. The Russian had a fairly decent outing at the ATP Cup in the start of the month. However, this is a big step back for Caper Ruud, who was expecting a good start to the season.

Casper Ruud’s withdrawal means we have lost three of our top 12 seeds so far. Novak Djokovic has already been deported back to Serbia. Meanwhile, 12th seed, Cameron Norrie faces a straight set defeat at the hands of Sebastian Korda. And now, Ruud has pulled out due to an ankle injury.

However, the Norwegian believes the injury is not all that serious, and he expects to return to court for the South American swing. Given that this is just the start of the season, Ruud’s team wanted to take no chance in risking an injury that could jeopardize the rest of the year.
