The world was shocked when a Chinese tennis star made some extremely serious allegations against a top-level former Communist Party Leader a few days ago. As soon as the star player opened up about what had transpired with her, a lot of people started fearing for her safety.
The tennis star in question is Peng Shuai. The Chinese tennis star was ranked world No. 1 doubles by the WTA back in 2014. In fact, she was the first-ever Chinese tennis player to achieve this feat. Moreover, back in August 2011, she reached No. 14 in the singles rankings too.
“I’ve known Peng since she was 14; we should all be concerned”: Chris Evert
She made the headlines after writing a pretty long social media post that disappeared quickly after it appeared. In the post, Peng Shuai wrote that Zhang Gaoli, a former vice-premier and member of the Communist party’s Politburo Standing Committee, had forced her to have sex around three years ago.
After the incident gained global attention, people were getting increasingly fearful about her safety. Former American tennis star Chris Evert also took to Twitter to express concern about Peng’s safety. Talking about the accusations, she posted on Twitter, saying, “these accusations are very disturbing. I’ve known Peng since she was 14; we should all be concerned; this is serious; where is she? Is she safe? Any information would be appreciated.”
The post in question was made on Peng’s verified account on Weibo, a leading Chinese social media platform. The post was removed very quickly, and Peng’s account is nowhere to be found. Moreover, there is no certainty where Peng is, if she is safe or not?
In the post, Peng wrote that Zhang and his wife arranged to play tennis in Beijing about three years ago and that he later brought her into a room at his home where she was assaulted. “I was so frightened that afternoon, never thinking that this thing could happen,” the post had said.
