Marin Cilic vs Fabio Fognini: Preview
Croatian tennis star Marin Cilic has been in incredible touch lately. The World No. 37 recently won the Stuttgart Open by thrashing the Canadian star Felix Auger Aliassime in straight sets. Although Felix gave a tough fight in the first set and took it to the tie-breaker, in the second set he was absolutely blown away.
After winning his first ATP title in as many as three years, Marin was filled with confidence as he stepped into the Cinch Championships. However, in the very first round, he was stretched quite a bit by Sebastian Ofner. After winning the first set, Cilic dropped the second and was taken into a tie-breaker in the final set as well.
Cilic was able to survive in the final moments of the game. He will now face Fabio Fognini in the second round. Eighth seed Fabio went past Lu Yen-hsun in his first-round clash without much difficulty. After dominating in the first set, Fabio was taken to the tie-breaker in the second set, but he still managed to win in straight sets.
Fognini was knocked out of the French Open 2021 in the third-round clash by unseeded Federico Delbonis. He looked out of sorts on the clay court and was thrashed in straight sets by the Argentinian tennis star. Fognini would like to build a winning momentum by going past Marin Cilic.
Marin Cilic vs Fabio Fognini: Head to Head
Marin Cilic and Fabio Fognini have faced each other four times in the past. Cilic leads to head-to-head record by 3-1.
Marin Cilic vs Fabio Fognini: Prediction
Marin Cilic has had a wonderful season. Although he was knocked out in the second round in the French Open 2021 by Roger Federer, he went past everyone to win Stuttgart Open 2021. Marin would like to stretch his winning run even further.
Fabio Fognini has struggled against Cilic in the past. However, Cilic has played a lot of games in the last couple of weeks which might have exhausted the star player. Overall, the game is expected to be a nail-biter, but the odds are slightly in the favor of Cilic.
