Coco Gauff
Cori “Coco” Gauff emerges victorious against fellow American teenager Amanda Anisimova in their quarter-final clash at the ongoing Emilia-Romagna Open 2021.
This was the first meeting between the two teenagers on the WTA Tour and Coco got the better of Amanda and won the match 6-3,6-3 which also seals her spot in the semi-final of the tournament.
Coco planned her game well knowing Amanda’s strength on the second serve and executed her plans accordingly to play according to her strength forcing Amanda to grind to win points. Gauff hit 4 aces in the match while Amanda failed to register a single ace.
Gauff had an excellent outing in terms to her service, winning nearly 73% first serve points and also saved 4/7 break points. Amanda could save only 4/10 break points but won 15/22 points on the return while Coco could manage only 13 from her 26 contested points.
Coco Gauff to play Katerina Siniakova in the semi-finals
2021 is turning out good for the teenager who has now qualified for her 3rd semi-final of the season. This will also be the second successive semi-final on Clay for Coco Gauff who also reached the semi-finals at the recently concluded WTA Italian Open 2021 before losing out to eventual champion Iga Swiatek.
Coco had been defeated by Amanda in the US Open 2017 Girls Finals and this victory would surely be a good revenge for Coco who now becomes a favourite after having a good fortnight on Clay this month.
Coco Gauff will now play against Katerina Siniakova in the semi-finals of the Emilia-Romagna Open 2021 with both the players yet to drop a set in the tournament.
