Danielle Collins vs Anhelina Kalinina: Preview

The American comes into this semifinal clash after beating Paula Ormaechea in straight sets in the quarterfinals. In fact, Collins is yet to drop a set in the tournament. After showing strong form on the hard courts earlier in the season in Australia, Collins was sidelined due an untimely surgery. Later, she came back to the tour, only to lose early in Roland Garros and Wimbledon. That said, the 27-year-old has once again piled up decent results in Budapest this week and will also be keen on making her first WTA final. Collins has won six matches and lost two on the clay this season.
Meanwhile, Kalinina comes into this contest after beating Panna Udvardy in the quarterfinals. Like her higher-ranked opponent, the Ukrainian too hasn’t dropped a set in this tournament till now. She also upset Bernarda Pera and will fancy her chances of going all the way. Prior to this week, Kalinina had never won a main draw match for 2021. Interestingly, all her 33 matches on the dirt have come in the lower-ranked tournaments.
Danielle Collins vs Anhelina Kalinina: Head to Head

These two ladies have met three times on the WTA tour, with Kalinina leading 2-1. However, in the last meeting, Collins came out on top in straight sets at 2021 French Open.
Danielle Collins vs Anhelina Kalinina: Prediction

The American will enter this semifinal contest as the favourite based on how he comfortably beat Kalinina a few weeks ago at Roland Garros. Also, both players have similar styles- occupying the baseline. If Collins can maintain the consistency she has shown through the tournament, then she should make the finals without much issue.
Match Prediction: Danielle Collins should win in three sets.
