Just 2 days after reaching her first ever Grandslam quarterfinal, Alize Cornet’s incredible Australian Open run was brought to a halt by Danielle Collins. The French woman lost in straight sets to the relentless American, as Cornet bows out of the tournament with her head held high.

Speaking about her performance, Alize Cornet heaped praise on Danielle Collins’ level of tennis, and believes that she needed to be at her 150% to even have a chance of winning the match. She stated that her energy levels were quite low, and the intensity was not quite there after a epic battle with Simona Halep in round four.

However, Cornet stated that she gave it her all out on court, despite not being at her physical best on Wednesday. “I should have been 150% to beat Danielle. It was just not enough energy, not enough legs action. I have this little regret, but even though I gave everything I had on the court today,” said Cornet.

Danielle is very powerful, even more than what I expected. Her ball is going really fast in the air and she takes the ball super early. All the time you feel really oppressed,” she added.

Alize Cornet believes that Danielle Collins was rather quiet out on court today. Collins is a kind of player who tries to express her raw emotions on court, however, Cornet did not feel much of the same today. The Frenchwoman believes that she did not try enough to unleash Collins’ inner lion, as it was a rather comfortable win for the American.

Alize Cornet also stated that she felt out of breath almost throughout the match, as Collins made her run all over the court. Cornet could not settle into the game as nicely as he had liked.

“I felt out of breath all the time. I couldn’t place my game. She just never let me do it, never gave me the time to do it. She’s impressive. But today she was pretty quiet,” said Cornet.

She didn’t scream that much. When I see her playing on TV, sometimes she’s yelling, C’mon. She looks like a lion. Today I don’t think I gave her enough battle so she could express herself,” she added.

Although, her Australian Open 2022 run did not end in a way she had like, yet this is major step forward for Alize Cornet. She certainly has a few more years of professional tennis left in her, and this could be the start of a new chapter in her career.
