Daniil Medvedev ends his losing streak at Roland Garros
While Medvedev was successful on the Hardcourts, he had been suffering terribly on the Clay surface. 3 out of his last 5 seasons on Clay have seen him having more defeats than wins while he dominated on Hard courts.
He was defeated in the first round of the French Open for 4 consecutive seasons from 2017 to 2020. His record did not improve in other tournaments on Clay also and it started becoming a huge criticism for the Russian who took it sportingly and dealt with it jokingly about how he wishes to win only 1 match on Clay at every tournament.
Medvedev was seeded 2nd at the French Open 2021 and had all eyes on him as he took the court for his 1st round match against Alexander Bublik. However, the luck was with the Russian this time as he registered his first ever win at the Roland Garros after 4 failed attempts winning 6-3, 6-3, 7-5.
Medvedev was very active on his twitter account digging out his old tweets related to his French Open losses. He found his tweet from December, 2020 where he talked about winning first round match at the French Open and replied to his own tweet after his win.
In a twitter reply to ATP Tour asking about the best moment at the Roland Garros, a happy Medvedev tweeted “So far? Actually hearing my name together with game, set and match“.
