“Not easy to hear all this news” Daniil Medvedev speaks out and shares his take on Russia-Ukraine CRISIS

Daniil Medvedev

It has been a good week personally for Daniil Medvedev as he is set to take on the World No.1 ranking from Novak Djokovic after the latter’s shocking loss against Jiri Vesely at the Dubai Tennis Championship. This is a culmination of the tremendous hard work and consistency the Russian over the past few years.

However, Medvedev’s remarkable achievement was somewhat soured by the launch of the military operation on Ukraine by the Vladimir Putin led Russian government. The move has been criticised by most of the other countries and is believed to have consequences beyond our imagination.

Medvedev promotes peace after Russian invasion on Ukraine

After his victory over Yoshihito Nishioka in Acapulco, Daniil Medvedev spoke out about and provided his views on the recently started Russian invasion on Ukraine.

Medvedev emphasized strongly that he believed in peace and hoped that peace would prevail. The incoming World No.1 said that as he had been to numerous different countries over the years as a junior and then as a pro, it is difficult to take in such news about war.

“By being a tennis player, I want to promote peace all over the world. We play in so many different countries. I’ve been in so many different countries as a junior and as a pro. It’s just not easy to hear all this news. I’m all for peace.”– said Medvedev.

Medvedev’s compatriot Andrey Rublev this week partnered with Ukrainian Denys Molchanov to win a doubles title in Marseille last week. Medvedev supported the partnership and expressed his admiration on the Russian-Ukrainian union amidst such a state of tension, labeling them as a sign of peace and unity in the current fire situation.

“This was amazing because I think people need to stay together and that’s the most important [thing]. In this moment, you understand that tennis sometimes is not that important,” said the Russian on the partnership.
