Austria to miss ATP Cup after Dennis Novak pulls out
Recently Novak withdrew from the ATP Cup citing health issues. This has become a matter of concern for Austria. Earlier Dominic Thiem, the star player of Austria withdrew from the ATP Cup and the Sydney Tennis Classic. He said that he will make his come back in January at the Cordoba Open.
“After the short holidays, my team and I have assessed all matters and we have decided to make some changes to my initial tournament shedule,” He said. “I will start the season in South America at the Cordoba Open in Argentina, end of January, and therefore I will not play this year at the Australian Open in Melbourne, a city that I love and where I have great memories of unforgettable matches in front of amazing crowds. I will miss the Australian fans but I will be back in 2023.”
This leaves Austria no choice but to withdraw from the event because as per the rules each team must have at least one player above the world ranking of 250, but the top player Austria has now is Lucas Miedler whose world ranking is 291.
Miedler said in the interview with Krone that they cancelled the flights last minute because of Novak’s pull out. “A few minutes ago we canceled our flights,” Miedler said. “I won’t be spending New Year’s Eve in Australia with that. Unfortunately Dennis Novak had to pass.”
