Novak Djokovic vs Alexander Zverev: Preview

What Novak Djokovic is doing in tennis on court since the last 2 years is sometimes scary. He has been almost flawless and is ticking every box for his claim to be the greatest of all time. Statistically he shares that with Federer and Nadal but many would argue that he indeed is the GOAT- in every aspect. He has had one of the most dominant season in tennis history- where he won three grand slams and was just a match away from completing the calendar slam.
While he’s dominated over 5 sets, many were able to breach his defense in a 3-set match. Apart from majors, he has won just 2 titles this year- Belgrade and Bercy. But this week in Turin, he’s yet to drop a set. He defeated Casper Ruud in the first match and blasted past Andrey Rublev in his next match to secure a semifinal berth. His outcome in the third match against Cameron Norrie is irrelevant as he has already topped his group.
Amidst a spectacular year, one significant loss at the Tokyo Olympics will haunt him. The loss came at the hands of Alexander Zverev– his opponent in the semifinals. Zverev has probably been the most consistent player this season after Djokovic. The German made it to the semifinals of three grand slams and has won two masters titles- Madrid and Cincinnati. He also won the Olympic gold at Tokyo.
In Turin this week, he defeated Matteo Berrettini in his first match and then lost to Daniil Medvedev in a three set thriller. He then stormed past Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets 6-2,6-4 to book a date with Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic vs Alexander Zverev: Head-to-Head

This will be the 11th meeting between the duo. Djokovic leads the H2H 7-3. They last met at US Open earlier this year where Djokovic won in five sets.
Novak Djokovic vs Alexander Zverev: Prediction

Like the last 2 times they met, this meeting too is expected to be a cracker and will most probably go down the distance. The fast courts will suit Djokovic’s movement but will also provide added assistance to Zverev’s serve. The German will definitely want his serve to fire against Djokovic- the greatest returner of all time. Expect a lot of long rallies going Djokovic’s way while Zverev will win the short ones. At the end, Djokovic will once again have enough under his belt to edge past Zverev.
Prediction: Djokovic to win in three sets.
