Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem has achieved a lot in his incredible career. The young sensation from Austria is the second-highest-ranked Austrian player in history. The champion player won the US Open last season and created history. He was absolutely sensational and thrashed everyone who crossed his path.

However, the current World No. 6 hasn’t been able to deliver his best performance this year in different tournaments. He played well in the Madrid Open where he was defeated in the semis, post that, he had forgettable outings at the Italian Open, French Open, and Lyon Open.

‘It’s a tough decision, but this is what I have to do’: Thiem

The Austrian was last seen in the Mallorca Open where he couldn’t complete his first match against Adrian Mannarino as he had to withdraw mid-game due to a wrist injury. While Thiem fans were expecting to see him make a thumping comeback on the court in the US Open, World No. 6’s current statement has broken their hearts.

Thiem took to Twitter to inform us that after a lot of consultation with his medical team, he has decided to withdraw from the US Open 2021. Thiem wrote that he is incredibly disappointed to miss out on the chance of defending his US Open title.

He added that he wants to return to the court as soon as possible, but it wouldn’t be a wise decision to rush back before recovery is complete. Thiem ended the letter by claiming that he is going to keep his fans updated about his health and he will come back to the court very soon.

Thiem has won 17 titles in his career and one Grand Slam title which came his way last year at New York. He reached the finals of the Australian Open last year as well but couldn’t get over the line. Thiem will miss the rest of the 2021 season and will be expected to return in an emphatic fashion in 2022.
