The 2022 season is almost here and will begin from the Australian summer leg starting with the ATP Cup. After a fortnight of tuning up, players will head towards Melbourne Park for the Australian Open. Tennis Australia had earlier made it mandatory for players to get vaccinated in order to compete at the Austrian Open. And now, they have announced that Electronic line-calling will be in operation again for the mega event.

Taking into consideration the current COVID scenario since the last 18 months, many tournaments have introduced electronic line-calling to reduce the number of staff involved. The 2021 Australian Open was the first major to adapt Hawk-Eye Live technology on every court. Players are also less likely to vehemently challenge a call when human error is removed completely.

Tennis pundits and fans are calling this fairly new technology as the future of the sport because provides more transparency to both the players and fans. Australian Open is embracing a CovidSafe plan this year and tournament director Craig Tiley believes Melbourne Park will be one of the safest places on Earth come January because of the strict COVID protocols in place.

It was decided that no unvaccinated players will be allowed to compete at the Australian Open and no player will be given exemption for the same. But latest, Australian Technical Advisory Group has issued new guidelines for temporary medical exemptions for unvaccinated people.

This gives a slight opportunity for unvaccinated players to play under medical exemptions given. This means that defending champion Novak Djokovic, who is yet to reveal his vaccination status could get an exemption to play the mega event.
