Emma Raducanu back in training less than a week after returning home from the US Open 2021
Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu is one of the most followed and sought tennis players in the world, especially in Britain after her historic title-winning run at the 2021 US Open where she became the first player in the history of tennis to win a major after starting as a qualifier and she did it in style without dropping a single set in the entire tournament.
As Emma ended Britain’s wait of 44 years for a woman Grand Slam winner, she quickly became the new favourite of the nation who are now waiting for Emma to return to the WTA Tour and win titles there as well. Emma has so far played only 1 WTA tournament above the 250 level, the WTA 500 Silicon Valley Classic 2021 where she was defeated in the 1st round itself.
She played 1 ITF and 1 WTA-125 tournament before the US Open and with her improved ranking of World No. 23 after seeing a jump of 127 places from her rank of World No. 150 at the start of the Grand Slam, Emma can now easily enter main-draw of competitions, something she could not do before.
World No. 23 Emma Raducanu might need to play the qualifiers at the Indian Wells in the coming week
The entries for the 2021 Chicago Classic and 2021 Indian Wells Open closed well before the finals of the US Open post which Emma saw the change in her rankings. So as per the rules, if Emma wishes to play in the two WTA-500 and WTA-1000 level tournaments respectively, she would either need to go through the qualifiers or she could request a wildcard to be granted to her.
With her triumph at the US Open, she might get the wildcard but as of now there is no confirmation about Emma’s participation in these two tournaments. Neverthless, the young Grand Slam champion is back in training to prepare for the remainder of the season and be all ready to play in her first full season on the WTA Tour next season.
