Take a bow Emma Raducanu, you thoroughly deserve it. The British tennis star had accomplished the unthinkable. The 18-year-old came into the US Open after delivering an impressive performance at the USA Challenger Chicago where she made her way into the finals.
Yet, nobody really expected her to perform as well as she did at the US Open. What is even more baffling is that the World No. 150 did not lose a single set throughout her US Open campaign. The young gun has now joined an elite club of superstars who took the coveted trophy home before turning 20.

The US Open 2021 is one of the most coveted tournaments in the world of tennis. Many top tennis stars dream to win the title and those who finally turn their dream into reality, turn into a larger-than-life and inspirational figures. That is exactly what Raducanu has become.
Her achievement at the US Open is still hard to digest for many as what she had done at 18, many aren’t able to do throughout their lives. Moreover, the champion player has now become only the third teenager after 2000 to win the women’s singles title.
Only Bianca Andresscu, who won the title in 2019, and Maria Sharapova, who won the title in 2006, are the two players apart from Raducanu who have won the US Open title before turning 20 in their last two decades. Overall, Raducanu has become the 9th women’s singles player to win the US Open in her teens.
Apart from Raducanu, Tracy Austin, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Serena Williams, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Maria Sharapova, and Bianca Andreescu have won the US Open titles before turning 20 years old.
