Emma Raducanu

British teen sensation Emma Raducanu continued her dream run at the 2021 US Open and hammered American Shelby Rogers in the fourth round. The 18-year old dropped just 3 games in the entire match and beat Rogers in straight sets 6-2,6-1 to reach the quarterfinals of a major for the first time.

Raducanu has been the find of the season so far and announced herself to the world at Wimbledon where she reached the Round of 16 despite being ranked outside the top 300 in the world. She was projected as the next top Brit tennis star and so far, she hasn’t disappointed and delivered every single time she has been put under the spotlight.

This week in Flushing Meadows, Raducanu has been absolutely flawless and coming as a qualifier, hasn’t dropped a set. She also became only the third woman in open era to reach the last 8 of the US Open as a qualifier. Raducanu is also the youngest British grandslam quarterfinalist in 62 years.

In the Round of 16 against Rogers, she came with a specific plan and executed it to perfection. She was dominant on the baseline and went for big forehand winners to close out the points. She served brilliantly and pushed Rogers deep in the court. Her strategy did wonders as she stormed to a double break’s lead and won the set comfortably 6-2.

The British teen didn’t let her intensity drop and carried all the momentum in the second set. Rogers had no answers for Raducanu’s lethal groundstrokes and was left a sitting duck for most of the most. The 18-year old, courtesy multiple breaks, stormed on to win the second set 6-1.

Raducanu will now face Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
