‘The list keeps on growing’ Emma Raducanu set to be recognised by the Queen in New Year’s honours

World No. 19 Emma Raducanu continues her first season on the Tour as the rewards for her success don’t stop. The 19-year old who went on to become the first qualifier in the Open Era to win a major when the then ranked World No. 150 Emma won the 2021 US Open having started as a qualifier and clinched the title without dropping a single set throughout the tournament.
Emma’s success at the US Open ended Britain’s long wait for a female Grand Slam champion as Virginia Wade‘s title at the 1977 Wimbledon Championships was the last time a British woman won a singles Grand Slam title. Emma also became just the second British woman to win the US Open since Wade won the 1968 US Open, the first US Open of the Open Era.
Emma also became the first British player to win a Grand Slam in the singles discipline since former World No. 1 Andy Murray won the 2016 Wimbledon Championships. Owing to her success and bringing Britain its much-awaited title, Emma is set to be honoured at the upcoming New Year Honours handed by the Queen of England for the recipients work throughout the year in their respective fields.
Emma is set to be honoured with the Member of Order of the British Empire (MBE), the third highest-ranking Order of the British Empire award. At the age of 19, Emma will be one of the youngest recipients of the award and will join the likes of Virginia Wade, Andy Murray, Rod Laver, Margaret Court to be given the honour.

Raducanu has also been adjudged the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for the 2021 year for her achievements this season on the Tour. Apart from her win at the US Open, she also reached the 4th round of the Wimbledon this year which made her the youngest British woman ever to make it to the 4th round of the Championships.
With such a massive success in only half-season, bigger things are expected from the youngster when she begins the 2022 season, her first full season on the Tour.
