‘Got here in the end!’ Emma Raducanu visits this special place after recovering from COVID-19

Emma Raducanu

British teenager Emma Raducanu was definitely the newcomer of the year by a mile. She started the year outside the top 300 and made her grand slam debut at Wimbledon where she shocked everyone by making it the fourth round- the only Brit to do so this year at the AELTC.

She grabbed a lot of eyeballs in her dream run at Wimbledon but not much was expected of her given her short career. She entered the US Open qualifying and made it to the main draw without breaking much sweat. What followed was a fortnight of record breaking tennis by Raducanu. She became the first ever player in tennis history to win a grand slam on debut and she asserted her dominance by not dropping a single set.

Before starting the new season, Raducanu was due to play the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi but before the tournament started, she tested positive for COVID-19 and hence was ruled out. Two weeks down the line, Raducanu has recovered from COVID and went out for the first time in over a fortnight. She took to the streets of Abu Dhabi and went sightseeing with her team.

Raducanu is a huge Formula 1 fan and hence went to see the Yas Marina Circuit- where the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is held annually. This year’s race was held on December 12 which Raducanu missed due to the COVID infection. “Yup got here in the end!” Raducanu wrote in her Instagram story while sharing a picture of herself from the circuit.

According to her schedule, Raducanu will play the WTA 500 event at Sydney as a tune up event before making her debut at the Australian Open. But this was before she tested positive for COVID-19. Although she has recovered well in time, Raducanu may make slight changes to her schedule according to her fitness. However, it looks likely that she’ll play the tune up event before the first grand slam of the season.
