While this was good news for the youngster, it also emboldened the TV Network Sky Sports to gain broadcasting rights from Amazon. Prime has been hosting all the ATP and the Grand Slam events of the year in the UK except for this year as they will lose the rights for the final grand slam of the year.

The reason for the change was Emma Raducanu’s win in the US Open

Prime video, when hosting the tennis matches has seen almost 9 million people watching their channel. They have also had an increase in their views when Daniil Medvedev had won his debut Grand slam thereby preventing Novak Djokovic from getting his 21st Grand slam. All these surprise victories by rising stars have increased the viewer rating and Sky Sports wants to capitalize on the profit. The victory by Raducanu has sealed that deal.

The United States Tennis Association which is in charge of running the tournament and hosting it in their Billie Jean King National Tennis Center are yet to confirm the deal but they did tell Amazon that the latter would not be broadcasting the tournament in the coming year.

Raducanus win in the Grand Slam has generated an interest in the player and the sport itself as it is not every day that a person who was practically unknown becomes somebody. This has led to the channel bidding to get the hot news for themselves and will be the one broadcasting the ATP tours from 2023.

The audience who heard about the news is split over the news that was announced. While some feel that it is a good move on the part, others feel that it is a risky move considering the fact that, someone phenomenal will not be winning the tournament every year and something new won’t be taking place.

There is some truth to both sides as the channel should profit from events happening in the tennis world and take the risk and hope for something phenomenal to happen. At the same time, the chances of something unique happening is not all that common and Sky Sports should have opted for the safer bet.

But there is no denying that Emma Raducanu is the phenomenal wave that caused channels to outbid Amazon prime, something that did not happen in the past three years. This young star only has the best and the brightest of the future and will only develop her skills as the years come. What do you all think?
