Dan Evans has had a great run on the tour this year, winning his maiden ATP Tour title at the Murray River Open in Melbourne, achieving a career-high ranking of 25, recorded his first victory over world number 1, Novak Djokovic and reached his first Masters 1000 semi-final.
The current British number 1 withdrew from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for coronavirus and thus, was last seen playing on the tour at Wimbledon where he lost in the third round. Evans last played in Washington in 2019 where he lost in the round of 64 against Yoshihito Nishioka. Evans is seeded number 6 in Washington this year and will be hoping to make it far into the tournament this year round.
The young 19-year-old, Brandon Nakashima reached his career-high ranking of 89 earlier this month and is yet to win an ATP Tour title. Nakashima has performed extraordinarily well the last month, by reaching his first ATP final in Las Cabos after beating 3 top 5 seed players. He eventually lost in the final against number 1 seed, Cameron Norrie.
He became the youngest American to reach a final since 2016. A week later, in Atlanta, he reached his second final but lost to number 6 seed, John Isner in the final. In Washington, Nakashima dominated on the court and triumphed over Alexei Popyrin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
