Tennis is not just a terrific way to stay in shape, have fun, and meet new people; it also provides enormous psychological and social pressures to those who participate. However, there are moments when the psychological burden appears to be too much to bear. Good players, on the other hand, are those who can overcome these obstacles and prosper on the pitch. As an example, Rafael Nadal’s name can be highlighted.

Rafael Nadal has recovered from a slew of career-ending ailments. He also demonstrated considerable grit and determination and defiance in the finals of this year’s Australian Open, where he came back from two sets flat to defeat Daniil Medvedev. In view of that, Chris Evert, a tennis icon, recently hailed the Spaniard’s mental toughness.

Chris Evert, the 18-time Grand Slam winner, regarded as the ‘Queen of Clay,’ has taken to Twitter to convey her thoughts. She wrote, “Wow… every aspiring young player should read this…”

The tennis legend made the remark after the Spaniard was vocal about his mental state throughout matches. In his words, “What I battle hardest in the tennis match is to quiet the voices within. To shut everything out but the contest itself. To concentrate every atom of my being on the point I am playing. If I make a mistake on the prior point, let it go. Should a thought of victory arise, crush it.”

The 21-time grand slam winner elaborated more on the topic by adding, “During a match, you are in a permanent battle to fight back your everyday vulnerabilities, bottle up your human feelings. The more bottled up they are, the greater your chances of winning, so long as you’ve trained as hard as you play and the gap in talent is not too wide between you and your rival.”

The Mallorcan used Roger Federer as an example, saying, “The gap in talent with Federer existed, but it was not impossibly wide. It was narrow enough, even on his favourite surface in the tournament he played best, for me to know that if I silenced the doubts and fears, and exaggerated hopes, inside my head better than he did, I could beat him.”

The most recent player to withdraw from the Miami Open is the King of Clay. Nadal was scheduled to compete in the tournament but withdrew to rest ahead of the clay season.

Rafael Nadal began the Indian Wells Masters as the fourth seed and advanced to the final, bringing his year’s record to 20-0. However, he was defeated in straight sets by Taylor Fritz, ending his winning streak. Despite this, Nadal’s performance saw him climb to No. 3 in the world rankings. Furthermore, due to his rib ailment, he is now more unlikely to compete in the French Open as well.
