Following his Australian fiasco and refusal to get vaccinated, World No.1 Novak Djokovic‘s participation at various tournaments remains doubtful as many countries are now making vaccinations compulsory for foreign nationals. After his deportation from Australia, the Serbian is now facing uncertainty from other countries as well.

Djokovic is a 5-time champion at the Indian Wells but might not be allowed for the Indian Wells Masters this year as the USA has made vaccination compulsory for all of their foreign nationals. However, the Serbian is set to make his comeback at the ATP Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships next week.

However, during his short time at the moment in Dubai, surprising details were noticed in the preparations and arrangements around the Serbian. Authorities have taken extraordinary steps due to Djokovic’s presence at the annual tournament near Dubai International Airport, with an unusual amount of scrutiny placed on the event.

Leaving aside the extra strong security, the organisers blocked most photographers and videographers from Djokovic’s news conference without any explanation. The guards were also patrolling during Djokovic’s training sessions, questioning anyone who tried to get a glimpse of the superstar.

According to the Associated Press, security guards admitted the restrictions were not in place for any other players, and thus are a special arrangement for the returning World No.1. The extra strong precautions could be because of the magnitude of the Serb’s comeback and the enemies he’s made due to his unpopular stance on vaccination.

On the eve of his comeback game against Lorenzo Musetti, the Serbian attended a press conference. In the press conference, the Serbian said that he didn’t find returning to tennis hard after such a long gap, and then went on to project confidence in his preparations.

“It wasn’t really difficult for me to pick up a racquet and go out and practice the sport and just play. I’m as well prepared as I possibly can be,” said Djokovic.
