Novak Djokovic and his wife Jelena
Novak Djokovic made his first public appearance since his controversial interview last week. The Serbian attended Expo 2020 in Dubai with his wife, Jelena, to promote his foundation.
Djokovic is set to play his first match of the year at the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships. Ahead of his return, the World No.1 was there at the Serbian Pavilion at the Expo, which was hosting an event for his foundation, the Novak Djokovic Foundation, an organization that promotes early childhood education mainly in Serbia. His wife, Jelena gave a presentation about the foundation’s work, this marked Djokovic’s first appearance with his wife since he was deported from Australia.
Jelena took to Instagram to share a post of gratitude after attending the Expo. She said it was an honor to present the foundation work and represent Serbia on a global stage. She also commended Novak for setting up the foundation and providing such an incredible platform to encourage early childhood education.
Novak Djokovic to play his first match of the year in Dubai
Djokovic started his year in the courtrooms of Australia, where his visa was canceled and he was subsequently deported from the country. After experiencing such torrid situations over the past few months, the 20-time Grand Slam champion is finally set to return for some on-court action. He will play his first match of the year at the Dubai Tennis Championships, which begins on February 21st.
He enters the tournament as the top seed and is one of the favorites to win the tournament, having already won it 5 times in the past. The Serbian’s No.1 ranking might also be at stake as he takes to the hardcourts of Dubai to play his first match since the Davis Cup tie against Croatia last December. He recently entered a record 360th week as No.1 in the standings but is at risk to lose his position to Daniil Medvedev even if he wins the title.
