Fans go out of the way to catch a glimpse of Roger Federer in action at Geneva Open 2021

Roger Federer competed in his first clay court tournament in two years, as he came up against Pablo Andujar in the second round of Geneva Open 2021. The Swiss maestro was playing only his second tournament of the season, and was returning after a two-month break.

Due to the covid-19 restrictions, only up 100 fans are allowed every day at the Geneva Open 2021. Since Geneva is in Roger Federer’s home country, Switzerland, there was bound to be excitement among the fans to see him in action. However, not all of them managed to secure the precious tickets to witness him in action. As a result, several fans went out of their way in order to catch the legend in action on Tuesday.

Roger Federer lost in three sets to Pablo Andujar

Roger Federer’s return to clay courts was short-lived as he was defeated in three sets by the Spaniard, Pablo Andujar. The Swiss was not at his usual best, and struggled on his serve. On the other hand, Andujar held his nerve, and won four consecutive games in third set to seal the match.

Fans gathered outside the tennis club to witness their local hero in action at Geneva Open 2021. They were all trying to get the smallest of glimpses to see the 39-year old in action on Tuesday. A few fans held up their mobile phones, whereas, others were trying to peep in, so they could see Federer in action.

Roger Federer will now compete at French Open 2021, which commences from May 30. The Swiss has already stated that he has low expectations from Roland Garros, and instead wants to be at his best till the Wimbledon.
