World No. 1 Novak Djokovic might not have got his hands on the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but he still remains on course to win the upcoming 2021 US Open in a couple of weeks.

The Serb has already won the first three Grand Slams of the year and if he can nail the final Major of the year in New York, then he will become the only player after Rod Laver (1969) to win a Calendar Slam in the Open Era.

Meanwhile, Novak’s father Srdjan Djokovic who has often been vocal about his son’s greatness was a part of the Serbian Podcast recently. The Senior Djokovic spoke about several aspects on his son’s contribution to tennis and the society.

Amidst the conversation, Srdjan also pointed out that Novak was a “leader” in “third world” countries like China, Africa, South America and India. The 60-year-old further added that his son plays his best tennis at the China Open because of the support he receives from that particular region.

“He is the leader of this so-called third, poor world, as we have been called by experts from the West. He is a God in China, India, South America, Africa. He is adored,” Srdjan Djokovic said.

“That’s why in China he plays his best tennis, since he is surrounded by love. He can’t lose in China or Beijing. This so-called third world has 6-7 billion people, these others who have that 500 million thinks that they are God-given and that we are less valuable compared to them, but that’s not true.”

While the senior Djokovic is known to be blatant in his views, his controversial remarks/allegations on sensitive matters about Novak’s rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have not been well received by tennis fans.
