‘A lot of players don’t trust themselves close to the net’: Roger Federer

Recently, Roger had a few things to say about coming down to the net during the game. The champion player is known for surprising his opponents by coming close to the net and he has backed that strategy. Roger claimed that it is extremely important to have an element of surprise while playing against the best player in the business.
He claimed that players need to have the confidence in their ability to play well at the nets if they have to get past top-seeded players. “A lot of players don’t trust themselves that they can hit volleys under the net time and time again,” he claimed.
Moreover, he also agreed that getting beaten at the net does frustrate a player but it is anyway essential to have the extra element of surprise. “Getting passed at the net leaves a sour taste, but against the best players you have to come to the net, you have to have that extra element of surprise,” he said.
Federer, who is set to miss the remainder of the 2021 season due to knee surgery is expected to make a thumping comeback on the court in the next season. The veteran of the game undoubtedly still has a lot of games left in him.
