World No. 11 Felix Auger-Aliassime continues to spread his wings as the young Canadian is just a place away from the Top-10 of the ATP singles rankings. Felix became career-high World No. 10 on 15th November but was then moved to the 11th spot in the year-end updation of the rankings.

However, the future seems bright for the youngster who has already become one of the flag bearers of Canadian tennis and with signs of improvements seen over the season, bigger things will certainly be expected from the 21-year old who made the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon and the semi-finals of the US Open this year. He also had two runners-up appearances this season as he continues his wait for his maiden ATP title.

Felix went big at the Tennis Canada awards night as the 21-year old was named Canadian Male Player of the Year. He won a total of three awards as he was also adjudged the Male Singles Player of the Year and Most Improved Male Player of the Year. This is the second year in a row he has won the Most Improved Player of the Year while winning the other two awards for the first time.

Apart from Felix, World No. 14 Denis Shapovalov was awarded the Male Doubles Player of the Year and Jaden Weekes received the Male Junior Player of the Year.

“Felix, Denis and Jaden had excellent seasons, and we are very pleased to honour them today. In the challenging conditions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, all three found ways to stand out and deliver exceptional performances. Felix, the first Canadian to reach the men’s semifinal of the US Open, pursued his meteoric ascent, rising to a career-high World No.10.

“Denis was the first player since Milos Raonic to reach for the semifinals of Wimbledon before falling to World No.1 Novak Djokovic. Finally, on the junior circuit, Jaden showed us all that he is one of the brightest stars among the new generation of players,” said Michael Downey, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tennis Canada.
