21-year old Felix Auger-Aliassime finally won his first career title in his 9th finals appearance when he defeated top-seed and the World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight-sets to win the title at the 2022 Rotterdam Open. This was his second final appearance in the Rotterdam Open having finished as the runner-up previously to Gael Monfils in the 2020 edition.

Having reached his first career final at the 2019 Rio Open, it was a wait of 3 years for the Canadian youngster who picked up the title dropping only 2-sets in the entire tournament. The win over Stefanos also meant that the Greek has now lost 8 ATP-500 finals without having won a single title in the category.

With both Stef and Felix heading to the ongoing 2022 Open 13 in Marseille, the Canadian was interviewed by We Love Tennis via an Instagram live where the interviewee asked the Rotterdam champion if he actually received a congratulatory message from 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer who had also sent a message to Thanasi Kokkinakis when he won the Tour title in Adelaide last month.

“It’s true! Roger sent me a little message. He sent me a message, he just said in English: “I’m happy for you actually, well done.” So it’s true, it’s nice,” said Felix who boasts a 1-0 head-to-head record over Federer having defeated the former World No. 1 in the 2nd round of the 2021 Halle Open where the Swiss Maestro is an 11-time champion having won 1 doubles title and 10 singles titles.

Being the third seed at the Open 13, Felix received a bye in the first round of the tournament and will start his campaign directly in the second round. He will square off against 3-time former champion and former World No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who is currently ranked outside the Top-200 in the ATP rankings owing to his consistent struggles with injuries since the 2020 season.
